SVI was calculated as a proportion of the total number of deficit items by dividing the sum of deficit scores by the number of deficits considered. (range 0–1)

Scoring interval 0–1 on each deficit

For example:

- binary rating on social deficits

1 = present

0 = absent

- three categories of social deficits

1 = often

0.5 = sometimes

0 = never

- five categories of social deficits would be scored 0, 0.25, 0.5, 0.75, and 1

Binary rating on social frailty phenotypes

1 = present

0 = absent

≥ 2 phenotypes indicate social frailty status
